Solar Powered Cars the Future Is Now

The future finally has arrived and it could be an amazing revolution that will change our lives and the entire planet. After decades or research and testing, many car manufactures are now able to build pretty sophisticated and fully solar powered cars that can perform like regular cars, look like them, but do not pollute and do not need thousands of dollars to refuel. Due to political and cost effective reasons, such cars are very slowly entering the market, making them more of lab products than actual vehicles for mass productions. The purchasing cost is still very high and in many areas regulations are still slowing the marketability of these automobiles.

That being said, with the fast increasing of oil price and the huge demand for alternative ways of transportation and car power, solar powered cars are becoming more and more attractive, representing a very interesting alternative. In the years to come, we’ll see what the future is reserving for us, but in the mean time the best thing to do is to read and research to try to fully understanding what is happening and what to expect, This is the only way to make an educated purchase when the time will come to dump fuel powered cars.

Grown Up Pirate Party Ideas

Grown Up Pirate Party Ideas

Yo ho ho, and a bottle of rum is the cry of the pirates. Of
course, rum is not what you want to serve at your child’s pirate
party but what about a pirate party for adults? Try using these
pirate party ideas for pirate decorations, games and party
favors.

Though pirate parties are popular birthday party themes, there’s
no reason your pirate party couldn’t be held any time, for any
reason!

Party Ideas

First of all, consider the great decorations you can use for
this pirate fest. Pinatas in the shape of tropical birds would
make great party decorations as well as serve as a game later in
the evening. You can fill your piata with chocolate gold coins
or perhaps a few more expensive treasures to encourage guests to
get into the action. Plastic swords might be used not only for
party props but also for the piata game. Have a few eye patches
ready for those who were too shy to wear a costume but then want
to get into the fun once they arrive.

Decorating for a pirate party can also involve treasure chests,
buckets overflowing with iced beverages, palm fronds across door
frames and tables covered in bright tropical colors or even the
pirate flag of skull and cross bones. Food ideas can be roasted
turkey legs, beverages served in frosty mugs, and fruit-filled
watermelon boats. Having some sea going songs playing in the
background along with sounds of Jimmy Buffet are other ideas for
carrying out your theme.

Use good judgment about serving alcohol and recruit a few
pirates or feisty “wenches” to serve as designated drivers if
the need arises. When the party ends, you want to be 100%
certain that everyone sails safely home.

Developing Your Child’s Self -Respect

Self-respect means taking satisfaction in appropriate behavior
and hard-won accomplishments. People with self-respect also
respect others. They do not need to disparage others or build
themselves up by bragging or exaggerating their abilities or
talents. They do not need lots of money or power to feel good
about themselves.

People who respect themselves view selfishness, loss of
self-discipline, recklessness, cowardice and dishonesty as wrong
and unworthy of them. They have inner strength and are unwilling
to let others use or manipulate them. They know that showing
patience or tolerance does not mean allowing others to mistreat
them.

People with self-respect do not crumble when they fail. They
accet mistakes as a part of life. As we help our children set
high standards for themselves, we also need to let them know
that failure is no embarrassment when they have done their best.

Teaching children self-respect, however, does not mean
complimenting everything they do. They also need honest
criticism from time to time. When we do criticize, we should
focus on things they have done, not on them personally.

What You Can Do

Encourage your child to build a positive identity that focuses
on her integrity and talents.

Emphasize that character is built upon the decisions and
actions a person takes each day

Work with your child to help him reach his full potential by
encouraging him to develop his talents, set reachable goals and
honor himself as a unique person.

Teach your child how to choose good values. Help her reason
about what are worthy goals and what are proper means to reach
those goals.

The Theraputic Value of Scrapbooking

The Therapeutic Value of Scrapbooking

I have been a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant for 16
years and have worked with many different types of physical
disabilities and clients with mental illness. When I started
scrapbooking 8 years ago, I never realized what a therapeutic
value it could have on my life. As the years have gone by I have
also recognized the therapeutic values scrapbooking can have for
those many different types of physical disabilities and those
with mental illness. I have discovered that Scrapbooking has
many qualities that can help restore an overall sense of well
being, accomplishment, and self-worth, as well as help with
physical deficits. Taking photos of loved ones and creating a
scrapbook not only showcases familiar photos, but can also
display feelings and memorabilia. It is not only the actual
“scrapbooking” of pictures, but the memories the pictures
reveal, that can be of great value.

I made a 25th Wedding Anniversary album for my parents and which
included photos from their childhood as well as photos from the
time since they were married. What I learned from rummaging
through all these old photos was an invaluable lesson in family
heritage. There were places they had been, and family members I
did not know and events that were unknown to me until I sorted
through these photos and interviewed my parents. The end result
was a wonderful memento of their lives and a keepsake we could
all cherish and share for generations to come.

Individuals with depression can find comfort in scrapbooking
memories from the past. Using the scrapbooking task as a way to
help individuals with mental illness stay on task, follow
directions and reinforce the need to complete a project are all
valuable Life Skills they will need to be productive individuals
in the community. Many with mental illness have a sense of
hopelessness and low self worth. Scrapbooking can provide these
individuals with a great sense of accomplishment.

The physical benefits of scrapbooking became evident to me while
working with a young brain injured individual in Rehab. This
person used the cropping tools to increase her fine motor
skills, as well as the photos to help with memory recall of
loved ones and others from her life. Cutting with scissors or a
paper trimmer and handwriting journaling helps build good fine
motor skills as does using shapes and stencils.
Visual/perceptual skills are also utilized with the activity.

Following directions of the therapist or using an idea book help
with organizing thoughts and following verbal and written
instruction. The organization skills needed to complete a
scrapbook page can assist a head injured individual with the
skills needed in many aspects of their life, from Activities of
Daily Living to work skills for returning to employment. The
step by step tasks of building a scrapbook page allow the
individual to process information and put the steps together to
form a completed task. Then putting all the pages together to
form a completed scrapbook reinforces the idea of task
completion and the overall understanding of getting an end
product from their labor of love.

Overall the craft of scrapbooking can be therapeutic to all of
us in some way. The companies that create scrapbooking supplies
and tools are often coming out with easier and less complex ways
to create scrapbooks. Someone with limited hand motion or
cognitive skills can learn to master this wonderful craft with
minimal guidance. I highly recommend scrapbooking as a
therapeutic tool for anyone and hope that if you know someone
who would reap its benefits, you will pass your love of this art
form on to them.

Tips On How To Conduct Background Checks for Nanny Services

Gepost door admin op 24/03/2008

Hiring a nanny is a sophisticated process that involves
searching, interviewing, checking references and extending an
offer to the right candidate. When the nanny has accepted your
offer, the final step is conducting a criminal background check.
Your offer should be contingent on the outcome of those results.

What to check? It’s hard to imagine that in this era of the
Internet and computerization there is no reliable national
criminal database that is accessible by the public. The “gold
standard” for checking a nanny’s background is to first run a
search using her Social Security Number to see where she has
lived in the past seven years. This is done so that a decision
can be made on which counties should be searched. Yes, that’s
right, these searches are done county by county, not nationally.
Few states have a reliable criminal index that is suitable for
nanny background checking because nannies tend to commit
misdemeanors at most. Many of these indexes only turn up people
who have felony convictions and/or have served time. Many states
don’t have statewide indexes at all.

Which counties should you search? Obviously the safest method is
to check each county, but in some cases this can get quite
costly. A fairly typical scenario may be a nanny who left home
to go to college, after which she may have changed schools and
then moved again after graduation. So let’s say she’s 23 now and
there are four years that can be searched since she turned 18.

2001 lived at home, 18 years old 2001-2003 moved for college
2003-2005 lived at her second college 2005- moved after
graduation to another city

In this case, since she turned 18 at home and moved shortly
thereafter, the duration of time spent at her home residence and
the city she moved to after graduation is brief. For someone who
wanted to hold their costs down, the two most likely locations
to check would be the two cities she lived in from 2001-2005.
Again, if you want to be absolutely certain and costs are not an
issue, you would need to check each place that appears on the
Social Security address check.

What other types of checks can be performed? Driving records are
very important if there is driving involved in your job. A
credit report can be ordered if you feel that information may be
important to your decision. There is a sexual offenders list for
each state that should be checked as well. There are numerous
other reports that may be ordered if you feel the need.

How do I perform the check? The Fair Credit Reporting Act (which
applies to more than just credit checks) requires that you have
a written release from your nanny to perform the check. This
form is downloaded and filled out by the family and then
completed and signed by the nanny.

What are some of the limitations of the checks? Every company
that does these checks warns that these reports cannot guarantee
complete accuracy. Also, there is a charge for each type of
check that you order, so figuring out your budget ahead of time
can help you prioritize which type of checks to run.

All in all, running a background check on a potential nanny for
your children is essential. These steps should help make that
process more informative and resourceful.
