Electronic invoicing has been around for a long time. Many millions of people and businesses are already using it and have realized the benefits that it brings to them, but there are still many millions more who have yet to take the plunge, whether out of ignorance or lack of information. One thing is for sure; it can bring enormous benefits, not only in terms of time saving and general efficiency, but also from an environmental point of view too.
Electronic invoicing can either be a stand-alone software product that just raises invoices for you and does little more, or it can be part of an overall accounting software package, or it can be part of a fully comprehensive all encompassing business system software tool (such as ERM - economic resource planning). It all depends on the needs of the individual, or the business, as to which one of these routes is more beneficial to go down. Software such as the Italian WebDoc can help you both with electronic invoicing and digital archiving of documents.
If we take a look at the small sole trader situation first, even at this lower level of activity there are benefits to both the user, and the rest of the world. As far as the user is concerned, once they learn how to “drive” an electronic invoicing system, they will be able to reap some instant benefits out of it. Some of the benefits may at first seem very basic, but when you’re raising invoices day in and day out, these benefits can soon add up to large overall time savings.
